Olympic torch crafting . . .

Whether you are in Vancouver, Whistler, or somewhere else in Canada, chances are you may be checking out a few Olympic highlights in person or on TV. To help you get your children in Olympic spirit, we've got the vibe on how to make their own special Olympic torch.

Materials

  • Sheet of paper or newspaper (depending on the size you want to make) for the torch base
  • Piece of paper for the Inukshuk drawing
  • Tissue paper in red, yellow or orange (or any combination of those) for the flame
  • Tape
  • Glue

Instructions

  • Roll a piece of paper diagonally to make a tight cone shape.
  • Tape to hold.
  • On another piece of paper, draw an Inukshuk outline and have kids colour in.
  • Cut around it and glue it on to the front of your torch.
  • Take a flat piece of tissue paper, or two or three if mixing colours, lay them on top of each other and pinch in the middle. Twist the pinch and fluff out the top for the flame. Tape this inside your torch for the fire. (Cut tissue paper in to smaller squares if your torch is made with a standard size piece of paper.)

Once you are finished, your children can have their own special torch relay!
