Human Body DetectivesWhen it comes to making food choices, do our children really know how different types of food can affect them? And when it comes to their bodies, do they know how it all works? To help your children in their journey of self-discovery, we recently came across a fun educational product that will help children learn more about their bodies and how to maintain a healthy body and lifestyle. The healthy kids vibeCreated by a naturopathic doctor who is also a mom and a Canadian living in Hawaii, Human Body Detectives is a series of educational adventure story-telling audio CDs and activity workbooks for children seven to 12. Dr. Heather Manley set out to publish the Human Body Detectives after she realized that if kids understand how the food they eat plays a direct role in how their bodies function, it will help them make healthier food choices. The audio stories are based on the human body detectives, who are sisters Merrin and Pearl, that have a magical ability to enter different systems in other people's bodies to solve health mysteries. The action-packed stories teach children how various systems work and what foods best fuel each system. Stories include The Lucky Escape, which helps children learn about how the food they eat can affect their body and in turn make healthier food choices, and Battle with the Bugs, which helps discuss influenza and its impact in a fun way. The accompanying workbooks are filled with puzzles, stickers and information, and are intended to reinforce what the children just learned from the audio stories. Why we like itAs parents, we are always on the hunt to find enlightening, educational and exciting products for our children. The Human Body Detectives stories and workbooks are definitely that. The series helps us be proactive about health by providing a fun, engaging way to teach the concepts to our children. From an adult perspective, we enjoyed the well-designed workbooks and even picked up a few good jokes to tell to fellow parents and colleagues. We'd like to pass this one along: What do you call a germ who wants to have a good time? A FunGi! (a fun guy). Overall, we're impressed. The series is a great way to help your children become more aware of their bodies and how the foods they eat can affect them. Hopefully, in turn, they'll be able to make healthy food choices in the future. By the way, if you are a homeschooler, the series is a helpful teaching tool too!
